A creativity doula for the church girls, creative artists, and activists.

Let’s Get Embodied!

We were born to be free, whole, and in healthy connection with each other.

Nearly 15 years ago, I started a career in intimate partner violence prevention giving presentations around my college campus, working as an advocate at local domestic violence shelters, and eventually working with state and national anti-violence organizations.

Between my faith upbringing in the Christian church, a career with racial and gender justice organizations, and my time as a music teacher and writer, I’ve spent a lot of time as a Black woman and creative activist “deconstructing,” “dismantling,” and talking about what I’m against. And while unlearning harmful social norms can feel urgent, it’s equally important to build.

What’s replacing your old norms, friend? We can (and will) talk all day about what’s unhealthy and toxic, but…

What’s good?

What’s healthy?

What’s right for you?

I’m here to help you figure that out.

My creative and somatic approach is rooted in embodied joy that builds bridges and liberates.

I am trained in the Somatica® Method and Sanctuary Coaching. My training with the Somatica® Institute has included more than 100 hours of live instruction, interactive practice, and supervision. I am pursuing certification in Somatica®.

FAQs
You may be wondering…

So, what is a creativity doula?

I know the title may sound interesting and the intimacy field is full of semantics—intimacy coordinator, seggs and relationship coach, intimacy director, and so on. The term “doula” resonated with me as it’s associated with being a supportive guide. Much of the intimacy field is fairly new, including the role of creativity doula.

As a creativity doula, I combine nearly 15 years of experience in violence prevention, music education, creative writing and storytelling, public health, and gender and racial justice to take traditional relationships and intimacy coaching and act as a guide who supports your creative journey, intimacy journey, or both! I offer a supportive and empathetic presence and valuable tools to empower individuals, creative groups, and companies to bring their creative visions to life. Learn more about my background here.

Is this like therapy?

Although my approach draws on several healing modalities, working with a creativity doula (particularly in 1-on-1 sessions) is not psychotherapy. I am not a therapist or psychologist. I offer support, guidance, and facilitation.

Traditional talk and intimacy therapy typically pathologizes issues around intimacy, and approaches intimacy from a dysfunctional perspective. Traditional therapy is typically focused on problems, not possibilities and ways to transform our experiences creatively. The dynamic between you and your therapist is also asymmetrical; a therapist will learn a lot about you, and you will know little about them.

As someone trained in the Somatica® Method, I value mutual vulnerability and empathy and its impact on the creative process. In other words, I ain’t got it all together either—none of us do—but as a creativity doula, my goal is to get you and your creative projects to thrive and embody joy for all involved and all who will engage with your work.
